NAEA Member Forum FAQs

Welcome to the new NAEA Member Forum! Here are a few tips and tricks on how to use the Forum.

Updating your profile

To update your name, click on the Name tab and enter your first name and last name. Save. Your name will be displayed as your user ID until you update your name.

Update your email address to be updated on replies to your topics and reply posts. Without a valid email address, you cannot subscribe to posts.

To update your signature and avatar, click on the Account tab. Do not change your username or ID as this is set by NAEA and cannot be changed. You can update your avatar photo by uploading a new photo. Make sure that the photo fits these specifications: the maximum dimensions are 85x85 pixels, and the maximum upload size is 30kB. You can edit your signature in the Signature Settings. You can also edit your time zone. Make sure to Save your changes.

How to use the forums:

To start a new Topic, simply click on the "New Topic" button within any Forum. Add the Topic subject line, add your text in the body content area. When you hit Save, you will be shown a Preview of your Topic. After previewing, Save your post and it will be posted in the Forum.

To reply to a Topic, simply click on the "Reply" button within the Topic. Replies are threaded and are displayed in chronological order, with the most recent reply at the top.

To subscribe to a Topic, simply click on the Subscribe tab within each Topic or Reply. There, check each box to subscribe to the Forum Page, the Topic, and/or the entire Member Forum to which you belong. You can edit your subscriptions within each Topic. Upon subscribing, you will receive email notifications alerting you to new posts, replies, and Topics.

  • Subscribe to this page - This subscribes the user to this forum page only. Anything posted on this topic will come to you.
  • To Forum topic content - This subscribes the user to ALL "Forum topic" content (anything that is a forum, not pages, events, etc.). If anything is posted on the site within the forums the user has access to they will receive notification.
  • To content in Cracker Barrel Lounge - This subscribes the user to all topics within the "Cracker Barrel Lounge" forum. The user would receive notification of any new postings within this forum.

To hyperlink a website, simply highlight the word that you want to hyperlink. In the WYSIWYG (TOOL BAR) click on the link icon (the globe with the connected chain).  Type or paste the web link in the URL space and click ok. The Link type defaults to URL and the Protocol defaults to http://.

To hyperlink an email, simply highlight the word that you want to hyperlink. In the WYSIWYG (TOOL BAR) click on the link icon (the globe with the connected chain).  Change the “Link Type” to E-mail. Type or paste the email address you would like to link to and click ok.

To link to a document (Word or PDF only), simply highlight the word that you want to hyperlink. In the WYSIWYG (TOOL BAR) click on the link icon (the globe with the connected chain).  Change the “Protocol” to <other> and click on Browse Server. Each individual will have their own saved files. Others cannot access your files.  If you have the file already saved, highlight the file and click Insert File, then OK. If you DO NOT have the file already saved Click on upload. Select Choose File and search on your computer for the file. Once the file is found select the file and upload. The file will now be available to upload. Highlight the file and click Insert File, then OK.

To upload an image, simply select the image icon on the WYSIWYG (TOOL BAR). Select “Browse Server”. Each individual will have their own saved files. Others cannot access your files.  If you have the image already saved, highlight the image and click Insert image, then OK. If you DO NOT have the image already saved Click on upload. Select Choose image and search on your computer for the image. Once the image is found select the image and upload. The image will now be available to upload. Highlight the image and click Insert File, then OK.

"What's going on?" - this is a tool that shows forums and website statistics. Users - are members that are using the forums at that time. Guests - are members that are logged on, but surfing the website. 

Viewing Posts:  On the Forum home page there are 5 tabs that you can select for "shortcut viewing". They are View Forums, Active topic, New & updated Topics, My Posts, and Unanswered topics.
 

 

New forums:

There will be 5 forums: 

  • NAEA Membership Forum - All current members have access
  • NTPI Fellows Forum - NTPI Fellows Only
  • State Forum - State Affiliate leaders
  • Board Forum - NAEA board members only
  • Potential Forum - for anyone thinking about becoming an EA and has a log-in/password to the website.(anyone can choose to be included in this forum by updating you demographic information on your main NAEA profile)

 

Forum Terms

WYSIWIYG (pron: wiz-ee-wig) - Meaning

  • To use the "quote" function, type the text that you would like to quote. Highlight the text and select the block quote option.
