Washington, D.C., May 6, 2016—The National Association of Enrolled Agents (NAEA), the organization that represents more than 49,000 federally-licensed tax practitioners, has announced the installation of its 2016-2017 board of directors. The board members are: President Richard Reedman, EA, USTCP, of Raleigh, NC; President-Elect James Adelman, EA, of Tulsa, OK; Secretary/Treasurer Tim Dilworth, EA, CPA, of Kalispell and Flathead Valley, MT; Director Michael Fioritto, EA, CPA, of Oregon, OH; Director Jerry Gaddis, EA, of Key Largo, FL; Director Patricia Kappen, EA, of San Juan Capistrano, CA; Director Melissa Longmuir, EA, of Bellevue, WA; Director Jean Nelsen, EA, of San Francisco, CA; and Director Jeffrey Schneider, EA, of Port St. Lucie, FL. Terry Durkin, EA of Burlington, MA moved from the presidency into the immediate past president position.

“Like those before them, this incoming board is dedicated to working with the IRS to ensure taxpayers receive the best possible tax preparation and representation services available,” said NAEA Executive Vice President Cedric Calhoun, CAE, FASAE. “It is our long-held position that taxpayers desperately need some assurance that the person they are hiring to prepare their tax returns is at least minimally qualified, and by being the only federally licensed tax professionals with unlimited rights to represent their clients before the IRS, enrolled agents well exceed that threshold. I believe this board is fully equipped to embrace this challenge.”

The board members met May 4-6 in the Washington, DC, for the NAEA Board of Directors and state affiliate leadership meetings, as well as the “Fly-In” day, where members met with their elected officials to advocate for sound tax policy. Highlights from these May meetings include an address from IRS Commissioner John Koskinen, and the 2016-2017 board’s swearing-in by NAEA Executive Vice President Cedric Calhoun, CAE, FASAE.

NAEA is the membership society of tax professionals who provide tax preparation, representation, tax planning and other financial services to millions of individual and business taxpayers. Enrolled agents (EAs) are the only federally-licensed tax practitioners who specialize in taxation and also have unlimited rights to represent taxpayers before the IRS – they’re America’s tax experts®. Members of NAEA must fulfill continuing professional education requirements that exceed the IRS’ requirements and adhere to a code of ethics and professional conduct.
