NAEA Legal Defense Fund

Be a champion for enrolled agents everywhere.

The NAEA Legal Defense Fund was established to assist with the legal expenses required to defend the rights of enrolled agents to practice before all levels of the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and associated levels of state or local departments of taxation. Funded by voluntary member and affiliate contributions, the Legal Defense Fund is used to:

  • oppose pending regulations or legislation, or
  • to change currently restrictive regulations or legislation inhibiting enrolled agents’ right to practice before the IRS, a state, and/or local departments of revenue.

Minnesota Defense Fund

Help us fight Minnesota Statute 332B and defend the EA credential.

NAEA is fighting to protect your livelihood and defend your right as an enrolled agent to provide services to U.S. taxpayers wherever they may be located, within or outside the United States. Past efforts to cripple EA practice rights in Nevada and New York failed. The most recent instance is in Minnesota where Statute 332B requires enrolled agents who provide debt settlement services to pay costly and burdensome state registration fees and to disclose detailed taxpayer information to the Minnesota Department of Commerce.

This cannot be allowed to stand. Enrolled agents are licensed by the U.S. Department of the Treasury. The enrolled agent credential is a federal credential, not a state credential subject to the whims of state legislatures.

NAEA and the Minnesota Society of Enrolled Agents (MnSEA) need your support. Learn more about what’s at stake, and partner with us today to protect and defend the nationwide scope of enrolled agents’ practice rights. If the Minnesota Debt Settlement Services Statute 332B is not overturned, we will see similar laws passed in multiple states. Much progress has been made and we have been working with the Department of Commerce, as well as the Minnesota legislature, to resolve this issue in the 2022 legislative session.
