You have a voice.

NAEA makes sure it gets heard.

Enrolled agents (EAs) are the reason NAEA exists—and we are the only association dedicated to EAs. We advocate for them in the halls of Congress, at the IRS, and at the state level.

We are deeply involved in legislative, regulatory, and tax administration issues and we:

  • Reach out to members through our standing advocacy committee and through social media, including NAEA’s members-only Facebook page, to understand member needs in the moment.
  • Bring EA concerns to IRS panels, forums, and meetings.
  • Work with the IRS to ensure that the tax code is accurately and reasonably administered and enforced.
  • Investigate and respond to proposed new regulations.
  • Advocate for enrolled agent interests on Capitol Hill.
  • Organize grassroots activities, such as the annual Capitol Hill Fly-In.
  • Lean into the political process through NAEA PAC, our political action committee.
  • Provide expert testimony on tax-related matters.

These critical issues are our current focus:

  • Improving IRS Functionality and Taxpayer Service
    • Advocate for IRS modernization and better digital tools for both taxpayers and tax professionals.
    • Support legislation to improve customer service and restore enforcement credibility.
  • Advancing Bipartisan Legislative Reforms
    • Support passage of the Taxpayer Assistance and Service Act with 68 provisions to streamline and modernize IRS procedures.
    • Endorse related House-passed bills:
      • Electronic Filing and Payment Fairness Act (H.R. 1152)
      • Internal Revenue Service Math and Taxpayer Help Act (H.R. 998)
      • Recovery of Stolen Checks Act (H.R. 1155)
  • Promoting Balanced and Fair Enforcement
    • Encourage the IRS to prioritize collections, privacy, and customer service.
    • Push for practitioner-integrated tools to support taxpayer compliance.
    • Emphasize the role of EAs in improving voluntary compliance.
  • Strengthening IRS Workforce and Technology
    • Urge congressional oversight to ensure investments in training, staffing, and strategic technology upgrades.
    • Push for a taxpayer-friendly IRS with consistent, high-quality support.
  • Establishing Minimum Standards for Tax Preparers
    • Advocate for legislation granting the IRS authority to set and enforce basic standards for paid preparers.
    • Highlight risks to taxpayers from unqualified preparers and support bipartisan efforts to fix this oversight gap.
