Michael Nelson (known as Mike) is the Interim Executive Vice President of the National Association of Enrolled Agents. He has over 35 years of experience in both private industry and the nonprofit sector. He recently left retirement to assist NAEA’s transition to new staff leadership.

Early in his career, Mike became interested in nonprofit management, realizing that many of the finance and administration skills that he used in the for-profit arena translated directly into the nonprofit world. To support this effort, Mike earned his Certified Association Executive (CAE) from the American Society of Association Executives.

Mike has diverse experience in nonprofit and association management—first as Vice President for Administration with the Florida Audubon Society, CEO of the Audubon Naturalist Society in Maryland, CFO of the National Building Museum in Washington, and COO of the Society of Nuclear Medicine in Virginia, and serving six years as Executive Vice President of the National Association of Enrolled Agents. From NAEA, Mike served as CEO for the National Association of Court Reporters, with a budget of over $8 million, a staff of 30+, and membership of over 15,000.
